Publisher Compile Heart and developer Sting have released new footage, information, and screenshots for Touhou Spell Carnival, including the reveal of characters Yukari Yakumo, Remilia Scarlet, and Sakuya Izayoi.
Touhou Spell Carnival is set during a spell card competition called “Futousai” suddenly held in Gensokyo, in which players can enjoy deeply strategic real-time battles where the goal is to clear stages full of gimmicks and ever-changing bullet barrages.
Battles use a strategy RPG system. Stages are divided into tiles, and you can spend the points that accumulate over time to perform various actions as extreme bullet hell battles unfold.
Touhou Spell Carnival includes familiar elements that maintain the atmosphere of Touhou Project, while also being tuned for this type of game, including “Bomb,” which gets rid of the enemy’s bullet barrages while dealing damage, and “Graze,” which lets you move while dodging the enemy’s bullet barrage.

By dodging enemy bullets with Graze, you can build up a gauge that, once it reaches a certain amount, can be used to activate your “Trump Spell Card”—a bullet barrage unique to that character, which also deals a great amount of damage.

Yukari Yakumo (voiced by Youko Hikasa)
Ability: Can Manipulate Boundaries to an Extent
A great youkai who can move anywhere by creating rifts in space. She usually sleeps a lot and tends to leave things like personal matters to her shikigami.
She is one of the sages who created Gensokyo.
Remilia Scarlet (voiced by Maaya Uchida)
Ability: Can Manipulate Destiny to an Extent
A vampire maiden and head of Scarlet Devil Mansion who has lived for over 500 years. She is selfish, easily bored, and tends to stir up trouble for those around her with her whims and curiosity.
Since she is a vampire, she is weak to sunlight and often sleeps during the day. When she does go out during the day, she carries a parasol to block the sunlight.
Sakuya Izayoi (voiced by Yuuki Kuwahara)
Ability: Can Manipulate Time to an Extent
The head maid and the sole human in the vampire-occupied Scarlet Devil Mansion. She is an impeccably perfect maid who handles her work flawlessly.
